Post Match Game Report - Coach Ron
Game Report
Lincoln Park Academy(LPA) had a fairly big sized team. Their forwards and backs made our boys look small, but in rugby size is always going to be part of the game. When it came to playing, we showed them that size doesn't matter, it's how well you do the basics of play. The things we worked on at practice showed. Those were: rucking, passing, tackling, scrums, running off the scrum, and defense. We lost the game on the more basic parts of the game. Those were: not kicking out of our own half, not running toward support, and most of all support.
First Half
It must have been those first game jitters, but for the first ten minutes LPA had us deep in our own half, backs against the try line, and they were pushing hard to get in. Once we got over the first 10 minutes, we got a huge Jonah Lomu like break by Josh on the wing. That put us deep in their half and we played in their half for the rest of the first half. We had plenty on opportunities, but small errors cost us those chances. At the half, score: LPA 5-0 Miami
(overheard LPA captain yelling at his team: "how can we be stuck in our own half for the whole game, by these damn little kids")
Second Half
The great tackling by Miami continued. The backs were outstanding with ball in hand, and moved forward at great pace. Joaco controlled the back line well and was just as solid in defense. It was back and fourth and most of the game was played between the 22's. We started taking a couple of hard knocks and LPA scored, in two of those chances. Subs came on and made a difference, especially in the scrum. Brandon came on for Jose, and you could overhear the LPA guys say "whoa, he's a big prop". Late in the game with under 5 minutes left, Josh makes another huge break and gets us deep in our half and with great support Camillo was there to pick up, fended off a player and broke away to score. Final score LPA -15, Miami -5
Man Of The Match
Honorable mention went to many who played great on the field including Diego, Tomas, Mateo, Bam Bam, & Joaco, but one player stood out above the rest: that player was our captain, Nacho. His tackling, running, and above all leadership on the field helped push the team to play the way they did and he deserved the honors.
*Please Note: This game is under investigation for the yellow card given to LPA player who was not CIPP registered.
